Los Angeles new music patron Betty Freeman commissioned Britain’s Alexander Goehr’s Quintet \"Five Objects Darkly\" for Southwest Chamber Music’s 10th anniversary. The disc also includes two works of Elliott Carter that received their West Coast Premieres on Southwest Chamber Music concerts during Carter’s two residencies at the new Getty Center in Los Angeles. The recording of Of Challenge & Of Love was sponsored, in part, by the composer, which we think speaks for itself. Carter loyalist Stephen L. Mosko conducts the Quintet for Piano and Winds in a stunning performance.
